Grangemounth Enterprise Programme Offers a Sure Footing to Recent School-Leavers

The Grangemouth Enterprise Programme, which empowers recent school-leavers with skills that are essential for employment within the waste industry, continues to go from strength to strength.

Provided for the benefit of young people in and around the Grangemouth area, the Programme provides training in core skills that are essential for employment within all sectors, including the waste industry. WamCal’s role in the Programme (that is led by Grangemouth Enterprise Ltd (GEL) and Falkirk Council) was to provide training for the SVQ element. Coordinated by our Education & Training Manager, Darcy Bertie, with training and assessment provided by Alan Boyne, our input ensured that, on completion of the Programme, all candidates had gained enough experience and evidence to achieve a Level 2 SVQ certification in waste management operations, rather than the Level 1 standard, that had orginally been discussed at the start of the Programme.

In a separate funded programme in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council, assessments continue to yield positive results. We are delighted that we are contributing to ensuring that waste management operatives within North Lanarkshire Council are well equipped with the core skills that they require in the workplace.

SEPA’s aim to stimulate development within the waste sector by waiving WML/PPC application fees until the end of the 2008/09 financial year certainly seems to have had the desired effect.
